What do you need the system to show?

Begin with a purpose for each proposed camera. You may want a clearer view of an entrance, reception or vehicle access point. Explain the situations you need to understand so the installer can discuss appropriate coverage.

How does the setting change?

Lighting and activity can change throughout the day. Ask for the site conditions, camera positions, cabling and power arrangements to be reviewed before equipment is selected.

Who will use the system?

Discuss who will be authorised to view live images and recordings. Ask how access will be set up, how storage works and what everyday tasks users need to understand.

Is remote viewing included?

If viewing cameras from a phone is important, include it in your requirements. Confirm the connectivity, equipment and any recurring service costs. Different systems offer different functions.

What support happens afterwards?

Agree the handover, maintenance and support arrangements. Installation does not automatically include a person watching your cameras or an alarm response service; each required service should appear in the agreement.
